Marjoram


 

·         Family: Lamiaceae

·         Botanical Name: Origanum majorana L.

·         English Name: Marjoram

·         Local Name: In some countries, marjoram known as a synonym of oregano, additionally, in order to separate from other kinds of origanums, it also called as sweet or knotted marjoram.

·         Description: It is cold-sensitive perennial plant that can be 20-50 cm tall. It has shoots which are greyish green and the branches are usually seen in red color.

·         Parts Used: Leaves and flowery branches

·         Components: Flowery branches and the leaves contain tannin and essential oil which is consisting of terpene and ketone.

·         Harvest Time: May to October when the plant is ready to flower.

·         Geographic spread: It is found in Southern Anatolia.
