·         Family:  Ericaceae.

·         Botanical Name: Calluna vulgaris

·         English Name: Calluna vulgaris also known as Common Heather, ling, or simply heather.

·         Description: It is a low-growing perennial shrub which belongs to Ericaceae family, growing up to 50 cm long. Rarely can it be growing up to 1 meter or more. Mostly seen in Asia and Europe where can provide to the plant moderate shade or sun. It has pink flowers which appear in late summer. Additionally, Calluna has small scale-leaves which are usually 1-3mm long, born in opposite side and it can be two or three of them together.

It contains essential oil, tannin, glycoside and arbutin.

This plant is beneficial for health and some diseases such as diarrhea, kidney problems and urinary tract infection. Also it is helpful to increase breast milk, clean the blood and it gives strength to the muscles. An application which prepared with olive oil is used for boil and eczema.
